Solid Set of Recommendations

We had Howard do an energy audit on our built-in-1968 expanded ranch house. He helped us find several ways to reduce our gas and electric bills, and made a solid set of recommendations to help us decide which fixes to pursue first. He's also been very helpful in finding contractors, and in general he's helped us to understand the how's and why's of the testing and suggested work. I strongly recommend you ask him to do an energy audit on your house too.

Howard is terrific. He came over, did a thorough review of our new house, and then provided a report with concrete, actionable suggestions in line with our priorities. Even better, he worked with us in finding an appropriate vendor, and then worked with us and the vendor to apply efficient, cost-effective solutions, all at no additional cost for his consults. It's amazing how comfortable our house is now--we've simply never been as comfortable--while meanwhile becoming incredibly more efficient. Our electricity and gas bills have dropped precipitously. Howard's additional cost wasn't much compared to the HVAC replacement we were facing, and he was worth every penny. If you've been learning about home performance and reading such websites as the House Whisperer, Howard is your man. Highly recommended!

Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value

We live in a 1920s craftsman bungalow. We love the look and style of the house, but the energy efficiency is obviously not the greatest. We called Howard to try and get some help to try and make our old home as energy efficient as possible. Howard was a pleasure to work with and was not afraid of getting dirty. He crawled around in our crawl space and our attic and ran a blower door test and found multiple things that would help increase our overall home efficiency. A day after his inspection he sent an email with photos and recommendations, some of which included links to products that would help and some of which were safety issues (HVAC and Hot Water Heater Exhaust issues, etc.). He also listed recommended contractors that would be great to conduct the work. I would recommend Howard to anyone trying to make their home not only more energy efficient, but safer.

Invaluable input all along the way

I hired Howard to lead the sustainability effort on my recently constructed home. He joined the team early in design and provided invaluable input all along the way. Howard is very professional, was responsive, and was willing to engage in challenging conversations at whatever level of detail was required to best address the issue. Finally, Howard, over and above his sustainability consultant role, became a resource for finding subcontractors, proper materials, and other items needed to meet our sustainability goals. He has been a real asset to our project.

Incredibly Knowledgeable

We needed more help than we even knew we needed when deciding what HVAC system to buy. Thank goodness we discovered Howard and his services while searching the internet. He is incredibly knowledgeable in the areas of energy conservation, insulation, moisture management, and more. Our investment in his services was worth every penny.

We knew very little about HVAC options and companies that could be trusted to do the installation properly instead of quickly or cheaply, so his services perfectly matched our needs. He thoroughly assessed our old house, crawl space to attic. He explained the results and made recommendations related to our stated goals. He educated us about possible replacement options and recommended a company that could be trusted to do the work. He helped us look at and understand all the parts of the company’s proposals. When we needed to modify our goals, he immediately shifted gears with us in a way that let us know he was firmly on our team.

He inspected the work of the contractors and subcontractors and helped us communicate with them when the work was not done the way they said it would be. He consulted by phone, in person, and by zoom for these meetings. It was like having a brother in the business who would be sure that we were getting the products and services we needed. We will not hesitate to call on him again if the need arises.

Help with a 1920s house in Decatur

I live in a 1920’s house in Decatur with my wife and children. The house felt cold in the winter and humid and warm in the summer. Our electricity charges are high. Howard performed an initial energy consultation and made helpful recommendations. More importantly, he then has been a dedicated and trusted advisor to me as I explore solutions. He provided recommendations on HVAC and insulation vendors. He reviewed their proposals and even took the time to chat with the HVAC vendor to ensure that scope of work was appropriate for what I was trying to achieve. Our home is more comfortable. I would highly recommend engaging Howard to anyone who would like to improve home comfort and energy efficiency.

Howard is very knowledgeable and thorough. He isn't selling anything which makes the whole experience educational and engaging rather than adversarial. He knows his stuff and I came away with an understanding of what problems I actually had and potential ways to address them.

Howard Katzman assessed my house and advised what rebates I could qualify for. He went above and beyond in making sure I understood his report and my options. Based on his information I moved forward with the Whole Home Improvement option and am now expecting a significant rebate check from GA Power. Money very well spent. Highly Recommend This Service

He was very punctual (4 hour process) and professional, explaining each step and test. Once completed, Mr. Katzman removed his equipment, cleaned up after himself and gave me a verbal synopsis of his findings. The details: The whole purpose for the assessment was for me to find out how I could improve the efficiency of my house and reduce its carbon footprint, and Mr. Katzman’s twelve page DETAILED report did just that! Each area of the assessment was thoroughly covered, in detail, written in a manner that I could easily comprehend. At reports end, his SUMMARY of the “Recommended Work Scope Packages” outlined “Good”, “Better”, “Best” improvements. Also included in the report are recommended “NEXT STEPS”, including pictures.

Useful Results

I used Howard Katzman to conduct a home energy audit. He was timely, thorough, and answered all of my questions. We were originally going to get 2 new HVAC systems, but after working closely with Howard and using his results and recommendations, we only had to get one new HVAC and spent our limited resources on insulation and other home improvements to save on energy costs. He also took care of all of the paperwork to process our GA Power credit. He was great to work with and I highly recommend him.

Extensive Energy Audit

Howard did an extensive energy audit and he delivered a detailed comprehensive Home Performance Assessment Report a day or two after the testing which took 4-5 hrs working in my home. He found the causes of air leakage and dusty air quality in my home. I am very pleased with the recommendations that he listed in the report and look forward to completing the needed work and enjoying the air quality, plus other benefits in my home, in the future. A neighbor recommended me to Howard and I am thankful that he did!

Professionalism, Honesty, Follow-Up and Customer Care

Howard Katzman did a Home Performance Assessment for me. I was very impressed by his professionalism, honesty, follow-up and customer care. Howard responded to my initial contact in a timely manner. He quoted a price based on the information I shared on my house specifications. Howard explained aspects of what he was doing and why. After I received the report Howard called to see if I had any questions. He is also willing to suggest professionals to take care of the issues I want to address. Howard is great at what he does and you can't go wrong with getting a home energy assessment conducted by him. Howard was recommended based on his background and experience and I could not have been more pleased. Howard focuses his recommendations primarily on energy improvements with the biggest return on investment, which I really appreciated. His assessment and report are extremely thorough and he even helps to evaluate offers from contractors to conduct the recommended work. I highly recommend Howard.

Professional and Responsive

We have a large old house that we wanted to make more energy efficient. We hired Howard Katzman to do an energy assessment. His report was excellent; he had a very clear list of things we could improve, along with their priorities. He was also very responsive on follow up and communicated with the contractors we eventually hired to do the work. One of the main reasons we chose him was that he is "independent" (he does the assessments, but not the work). But he also made good recommendations for contractors, which worked out well.

I chose Howard because I liked that he does the audit but does not also do the repairs. Howard was fantastic! He is truly an expert at what he does. He is thorough, detailed and patient. Howard arrived on time and inspected my house with a blower door and an in-depth inspection of the crawlspace, attic, walls, windows, and doors. A few days later, he gave me a comprehensive report of the state of the house regarding energy efficiency, comfort, and some structural issues. He created a prioritized list of recommendations for us and recommended a company to perform the work.
